As Market Season Winds Down...

As market season winds down, I find myself in the curious position of trying to continue giving my attention to the rest of this year while trying to balance the ideas and plans for next year. That's the truth of being a small business owner. It never actually stops. While I continue to bake loaves for my loyal customers through the end of October, I think about how I want my enterprise to grow and what my goals will be when I meet up again with them in May of 2026.
The much needed bread oven will be ordered this week. I'm excited about the possibility of baking more bread in shorter periods of time. The idea of regaining additional time in my day is invaluable. There is so much to do when one isn't waiting to pull loaves out of the oven.
We are anticipating a return of flowers in 2026. We are moving production to the area around the old chicken coop, which means I have new ground to break, peonies to divide and move, and over 200 tulip bulbs to plant. The location of the old market garden is over run with weeds and needs some love before snow flies. The goal is to have everything broken, cover cropped, and ready to go so that spring will be easier; fingers crossed. 2025 has proven to be our most successful year to date and it's not even over yet! Maybe that's why it's so easy to look forward to 2026, because I'm not ready to stop. If you're not ready for market to end, be sure to check out our local bread pick up to get a taste of market in the off season.
